Sticky Fingers

Sticky fingers and children.

Yes I know - the mess! Better to give them a computer console or a DVD.
They will definitely stay clean that way. But at what cost? Everything we do in modern society revolves around a gadget or computerised piece of equipment.
Many of us sit in front of a computer five days a week and eight hours per day.

At home dinner comes out of the microwave and then the rest of the evening is spent in front of the television, sending text messages at intervals.

We only communicate via machines.

What ever happened to verbal communication with others. What ever happened to social interaction without the props of modern day society? Imagine this, a whole week without access to any techie gadgets.

Has panic set in yet? What will you do with your time? Here is one idea for you and the children and it might even be fun! Return of the rice krispie buns! All you need is chocolate, rice krispies, some jelly sweets, bun cases and aprons.
Break the chocolate into pieces in a heat proof bowl (this next bit is for the grown-up to do) and sit into a saucepan of boiling water.
Allow to melt, stirring occasionally.
Kids: Place the bun cases in rows on a tray.
Put the jellies on a plate ready for the decorating.
Pour the rice krispies into a big bowl.

When the chocolate is melted (grown-up again) pour into the middle of the bowl of rice krispies.
Kids: Stir the chocolate and the rice krispies until they are all mixed together. The best thing about this part is that the rice krispie mix gets everywhere. You will find it all over the counter top and on the floor. There is something very wrong if at this stage the children do not have sticky fingers. It will definitely find its way into pockets and the childrens hair.
This to me is a gauge of how much fun you have had.
Loosen up - it doesn't matter if the mix spills out. Accept there will be a mess.

The more places you find rice krispies after the event means that you had lots and lots of fun.
Kids: The next bit is very important and should be done by the children. Spoon the mix into each of the bun cases.
Next put the jellies on top of each bun.
Carefully place the tray of buns into the fridge.

It will take about an hour for them to set. The most important part is next.

The bowls and spoon need to be licked.

Yum, the is the best part.
This is only a success when all participants finish with sticky fingers!
