Knowing Your Kid

Have you experienced being given just the indifferent shrug when you try asking you teenager his days' activities? Well, if that is the case, it would seem that you have been out of touch for long. Kids, especially young ones are all eager to share ideas, experiences and feelings they have had, even frustrations and questions.
It has been said that young children's minds are like sponge, they absorb anything that they see, hear and observe in their environment. The most that you could teach them are those that you taught at their young age. Later, when they have been exposed to other people and other places, they would start to form ideas of their own, especially when they are of school age. During this very crucial age, children need the most guidance we could provide them. At this stage, it is important that we spend enough time with them and train them to confide everything with us, parents.

By providing open communication, we encourage them to practice sharing their daily activities and to ask questions when they need to.
Through this, we avoid having to worry about them going to their peers to share problems and getting misguided advice.
Almost all teen pregnancies is related to not having open communication lines with children.
Parents who train their children to treat them not just as parents but also as friend and confidant, have less worries regarding studies and behavior problem.
Spending quality time with your kids is a great way of building rapport with them and giving them the feeling that they have you anytime they need you and that they don't have to go to other people to seek answers.
