Teach Yourself French - French For Beginners

If you're a complete beginner at learning French or indeed any language, then you may be wondering why learn French? There are a whole bunch of reasons why someone might want to learn another language, French in particular. The most blindingly obvious is to be able to speak and communicate with those who also speak the language e.g. if your staying in France. This also includes people you may meet whilst travelling or perhaps closer to home with people who speak it within you community. If you were, as an example, planning a trip to France or even staying there for a while then your visit would be much enriched by being able to communicate with people around you. Being able to communicate in another countries native tongue demonstrates a profound respect for their culture. Even if you only end up managing to get out the words "hello", "please", "thank you", and "goodbye" it shows respect and a willingness to try. One clear advantage of learning French and speaking their language is you can enjoy their film, music, literature, entertainment, and culture. They are of course best in their native language as something, even if it's subtle, is usually lost in translation. Language helps to define the world around us, as it all begins with a thought and that thought is manifested in language. This perhaps explains why every culture is unique. If nothing else, learning another language such as French facilitates to open one's mind to new concepts and new ways of viewing the world from another's perspective.
